- 115g (4 oz) good-quality dark chocolate (70% cocoa solids)
- 90g (1/3 cup) unsalted butter, at room temperature
- 175g (3/4 cup packed) caster sugar, preferably golden
- Grated zest and juice of 1 orange (you need 75ml (2 1/2 fl oz) of juice)
- 2 large eggs, free range or organic
- 185g (1 1/2 cup) plain flour, sifted
- 1/2 tsp bicarbonate of soda
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 tbsp semi-skimmed milk at room temperature
To decorate:
- 1 batch of Chocolate Buttercream Icing
- Grated orange zest or sugar flowers
